The Matica XL8300 prints on oversized 124mm × 85.6mm cards, a format more than twice the area of a credit card. Print quality, speed and card format for a working event programme

The XL8300 is built on Matica’s established XID print engine. It shares the proven retransfer technology of the XID8300, re-engineered with a wider print head and transport mechanism to handle the oversized card format. Retransfer printing puts the image onto a clear transfer film first, then bonds that film onto the card surface. The result is an edge-to-edge, photo-quality finish at 300 dpi that holds up across PVC, ABS and PET card materials.

In colour mode, the XL8300 prints up to 85 cards per hour. Monochrome output reaches 128 cards per hour. The 100-card input and output hoppers keep a production run moving, so accreditation teams can print in batches without stopping to reload against a hard deadline. Each oversized card carries two printable CR80-sized areas. The XL8300’s firmware manages this automatically, giving designers a large, flexible canvas for photos, logos, access tiers and barcodes without manual intervention.

The printer’s metal chassis is built for the demands of a multi-day event. It fits on a standard desk, so you can set it up on-site at a registration desk, security gate or production office and issue badges as delegates and crew arrive.

Card security: UV printing and contactless encoding

UV printing is available using a compatible YMCK-UV ribbon. It adds an invisible logo, text or watermark across the card that can only be read under UV light. At entry points where staff are checking for copied or forged passes, that hidden layer gives them a fast, reliable way to confirm a credential is genuine. For events where a pass also needs to control physical access, the XL8300 can be upgraded with an inline contactless encoding module (DIK10459) supporting MIFARE, DESFire and HID iClass. The same card that carries a delegate’s photo and name can also grant or restrict access to specific zones, from backstage areas to VIP lounges, without any additional credential.

The oversized format, UV security and contactless encoding make the XL8300 well suited to visitor management and contractor badging, not only event accreditation. Any organisation that needs identification cards large enough to be read at a distance will find the format useful. Where a standard CR80 pass runs out of room, the XL8300 has space for everything.

Consumables, warranty and ongoing supply

The XL8300 is a retransfer printer, so every print run requires both a colour ribbon and a retransfer film. The Matica Chromxpert Diamond YMCK Colour Ribbon PR000816 gives 1,000 prints per roll and is the standard choice for full-colour work. For badges that need a UV security layer, the Matica YMCK-UV Colour Ribbon DIC10313 gives 750 prints per roll. Card stock is equally specific to the format. The Matica XL8300 PVC XL Oversized Cards, Plain White, Pack of 250 are pre-hole-punched to the short edge and cut to 86mm × 124mm, so they load and print without adjustment.

The printer carries a 36-month warranty. The printhead is covered for its lifetime provided EDIsecure® branded consumables are used throughout.
