Evolis Primacy 2 ID Card and Badge Printer - PM2-0001-E

Evolis Primacy 2 ID Card Printer Overview

The Evolis Primacy 2 is built for organisations issuing ID cards at medium to large volumes. It combines speed and quality with a level of security flexibility that most printers at this tier don't offer as standard.

How It Prints

The Primacy 2 uses dye-sublimation for full-colour cards and thermal transfer for monochrome, printing edge-to-edge on single or dual-sided cards. Rewrite technology comes as standard, letting you print, erase, and reprint the same card in seconds, which is a useful cost saver for visitor badges, student cards, and anything else that gets updated regularly rather than issued once.

With 300 x 600 dpi in full colour and 300 x 1200 dpi in monochrome, the Primacy 2 offers some of the highest-quality ID cards on the market.

Speed and Capacity

Single-sided, it prints up to 280 cards per hour. The dual-sided version manages up to 170 cards an hour, printing both sides in the same pass. A 100-card feeder comes as standard, with a 200-card feeder available as an upgrade if your volume grows. High-resolution printing mode, paired with Evolis's colorimetric profile, keeps colour output close to true-to-life rather than flattened or oversaturated.

Built to Grow With Your Organisation

Double-sided printing, the 200-card feeder, encoders, a lamination module, and an LCD screen can all be added later rather than needing to be decided at the point of purchase, and every one of these upgrades installs on-site without needing a specialist visit.

So the Primacy 2 is a long-term investment as you can buy for what you need today, and add capability as your requirements change.

Security, Chosen to Match Your Requirements

The Evolis Primacy 2 card printer is packed full of security features to keep the data and sensitive information you pass through it safe from prying eyes. Kineclipse® masks sensitive data on the ribbon after printing, so nothing readable remains once a job's finished, and digital erasing clears the same data from the printer's own memory automatically. A mechanical key lock protects the inside of the printer, so consumables and any fitted encoders can't be accessed or stolen without it. For cards that need to resist wear and fraud, a YMCKOO ribbon adds a double overlay layer, giving three times the abrasion resistance of a card printed with a standard YMCKO ribbon, and a UV effect can be added via that same ribbon or through the optional lamination module for an extra visible security layer.

Encoding Options

Magnetic stripe, contact smart card, and contactless encoding are all available, including specific encoder options like Evolis Elyctis Dual and OMNIKEY 5122, so the Primacy 2 can be configured to match whatever access control or ID system your organisation already runs, chosen at purchase or added later.

Connectivity, Compatibility, and Everyday Use

USB and Ethernet come as standard, with WiFi available as an option, and the Primacy 2 runs on Windows, Mac, and Linux. On models with the LCD screen, the display shows a QR code directly when support is needed. Scan it, and you're taken straight to the relevant help article rather than searching for it. An optional scanner feature checks that each card has printed correctly and keeps a print history, which is useful for larger organisations wanting a record of issuance.

In everyday use, the Primacy 2 is one of the best ID card printers on the market. It's easy to use interface makes producing high-quality cards simple. From changing printer ribbons to installing an encoding unit, it's a plug-and-play system that just simply works.
