Cotag Cards and Tags

Cotag cards and tags are passive access control credentials, the key fobs and cards that staff, contractors and visitors present to a reader to unlock doors, barriers and secured areas. The Cotag IB981 passive keyring tag is supplied pre-encoded in a pack of 10, which suits a small team or a batch of replacements for fobs that have gone walkabout. The Siemens order code is S54501-N7-A1.

The IB981 measures 40 x 49 x 4.5mm, so it sits comfortably on a set of keys or in a pocket without adding bulk. Being passive means there is no battery to run flat or replace. The sealed plastic body stands up to daily handling far better than a paper pass would.

The IB981 can be used with any Cotag reader. Read range is where the choice bites on site. On a Cotag hands-free reader the tag reads at roughly 29cm, so people walk up and the door releases with the fob still in a pocket. On a Cotag proximity reader it is 2 to 9cm, so the tag has to be presented deliberately. The readers already fitted to your doors decide which of those you get.

The keyring format works well where people already carry keys and want one less thing to lose, which covers a lot of trade, maintenance and out-of-hours access setups.
